Experience of Hispanic students

Gifted or not, the experience of Hispanic students in schools is often one of stereotyping, labeling, and assumptions of what they may or may not be capable of. This experience is often even worse for newly immigrated students who have little English proficiency. Below is a video describing the experience of one person as she started school in the United States after immigrating from Mexico. It also details the power a teacher can have in uncovering strengths of students when their experience had not previously been stimulating or effective in meeting their needs.
